In November, 2012 as a volunteer researcher for the Bland County Historical Society, I answered an inquiry from Thomas Seidel of Berlin, Germany concerning the subject of this historical glimpse, August Wesendonck. Mr. Seidel had “googled” the name Wesendonck and received several “hits” which included the road sign for Wesendonck Road in Bland County, VA as well as a picture of the Wesendonck United Methodist Church. He wanted to know if there was any possibility that the person for whom these two places were named in Bland County had a connection to his research project. [1]
